Nathan Gamble Bable

I had an agent in Seattle for about 3 months before the audition for the movie Babel came up. I went to two call-backs in Seattle and then they sent me to LA for the final audition with the director, Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu. I auditioned with Elle Fanning and it was a lot of fun. We drove off to go to the Santa Monica Pier after the really long audition (almost two hours!) and while we were driving they called me to say, "You got the role!" It was very exciting!

I play Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett's son, Mike. The movie filmed in Tijuana and Puerto Penasco, Mexico. Mexico was very exciting - never boring - and I met some really nice Mexican people. But Mexico is also kinda crazy - I had a body guard the whole time I was there, which was pretty cool once I got used to it. He'd follow me around everywhere and pretty soon I tried to lose him and do other things to get him worried. One day he showed me all these cool weapons he had hidden under his shirt- I'm pretty sure you can't buy stuff like that in America! My dad liked Tijuana- especially the tequila samples they gave out right in the street!

This is a pretty serious movie, and I'd get into character by listening to the director and he would help me get to were I needed to go. Alejandro is a very intense and very special person to me. He gave me my first break and taught me so many important first lessons about movie acting.

While not acting, I did a lot of swimming in the hotel pools with Elle Fanning. It was easy to leave the intense role behind; I was only 7 when I did this movie. All I knew how to be was a kid.
